Egypt Establishes Largest Transit Container Terminal at "Tahya Misr 2" Station

By Dr. Nader Ali

Within the framework of Egypt's ongoing efforts to develop the transportation and logistics sector, the multi-purpose terminal project "Tahya Misr 2" has been implemented at Berth 100 in Dekheila Port. This marks a significant step towards transforming Egypt into a global hub for maritime transport and logistics.

In cooperation with the international alliance "Hutchison - MSC", the project aims to increase the port's capacity and accommodate larger vessels. The terminal's capacity is expected to reach 1.5 million containers annually, focusing on transit containers.

The "Tahya Misr 2" terminal represents an advanced model for the logistics sector, featuring cutting-edge technology that keeps pace with the latest developments in the maritime transport industry.

The constructed quay stretches 1200 meters of the total 1680 meters, with a depth of 18 meters, allowing it to receive giant vessels up to 400 meters long and carrying up to 24,000 containers.

This project will enhance Dekheila Port's position as a major hub for international trade in the Mediterranean, contributing to the support of the Egyptian economy and increasing global trade activity.

Furthermore, the project opens up opportunities for more than 2000 direct and indirect jobs, enhancing the economic and social value for the local community.

Additionally, a contract was signed between the Alexandria Port Authority and the "Hutchison - MSC" alliance for the construction, management, operation, and maintenance of the terminal. This is part of the "Sokhna-Alexandria Logistic Hub" project, which connects the Red and Mediterranean Seas, promoting integration among Egyptian ports and sustainably supporting the national economy.
