The Egyptian military has unveiled its first locally manufactured armed unmanned surface vessel (USV), named the "Hydra B5." Developed in a strategic partnership between the Italian Leonardo Group and a specialized Cypriot company, the project was completed in less than four months, marking a significant milestone in Egypt’s maritime capabilities.
The "Hydra B5" is not just an unmanned boat—it is a multi-mission combat system capable of conducting maritime patrols, reconnaissance operations, coastal defense, and high-precision offensive strikes. It is equipped to carry devastating torpedoes and features a sophisticated remote-control system, making it a critical asset in Egypt’s naval defense strategy.
The name "Hydra" was far from a random choice. In Greek mythology, the Hydra is the legendary serpent that could not be defeated—each time a head was cut off, two more would grow in its place. In astronomy, Hydra is a constellation symbolizing courage, and in ancient lore, it represents a creature of the underworld feared for its deadly venom and soul-snatching power.
Today, the Hydra rises again—reborn by Egyptian hands—as a symbol of naval strength, advanced technology, and intelligent deterrence. It sends a clear message: Egypt’s national security lies in capable and innovative hands.
