Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered an important speech during the opening session of the Emergency Arab Summit held in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt, attended by Arab leaders, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and heads of international and regional organizations. President El-Sisi’s speech was clear in expressing Egypt’s steadfast positions regarding the Palestinian cause, foremost among them supporting the rights of the Palestinian people in their land and rejecting any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
Text of President El-Sisi’s Speech:
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
"Your Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, President of the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Arab League Summit, esteemed brothers, Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses, Kings, Presidents, and Princes of the Arab sister states, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, my dear brother His Excellency President João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, Chair of the African Union, His Excellency Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, His Excellency Mr. António Costa, President of the European Council, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Jassim Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, distinguished heads of international and regional organizations, peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.
I would like to begin by expressing my sincere greetings and deep thanks to my dear brother, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, for his commendable efforts during his presidency of the Arab League Summit. I am pleased to congratulate all of you, and our Arab and Islamic peoples, on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan. I am also happy to welcome you to your second country, "Egypt," the land of the Kinanah, which always stands with justice and righteousness, no matter how difficult the trials and adversities may be.
Your participation today in this extraordinary summit, amid an exceedingly complex regional crisis and in response to the call of our Palestinian brothers, affirms your unwavering commitment to the legitimate causes of our nation.
Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses,
Today, we are united by a painful reality in light of the enormous challenges facing our region, which threaten regional security and stability, undermine what remains of the pillars of Arab national security, and endanger stable Arab countries, while tearing away Arab lands from their rightful owners with no legal or legitimate justification.
Humanity’s memory will linger long over what happened in Gaza, recording how humanity as a whole lost, and how the aggression against Gaza left a stain of shame on human history, characterized by the "spread of hatred, lack of humanity, and absence of justice."
The children and women of Gaza, who lost their families and whose lives were shattered by the loss of tens of thousands of their loved ones, look at you today with hopeful eyes, seeking the restoration of hope for a just and lasting peace.
Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses,
The brutal war on the Gaza Strip aimed to destroy the various aspects of life, and through the use of force, it sought to empty the region of its population, as though it was offering the people of Gaza a choice between certain annihilation or forced displacement. This is the situation Egypt is confronting, based on its historic position supporting the Palestinian people’s rights to their land and their dignified existence on it, until we remove the injustice from them and do not participate in it.
The inhumane practices faced by our brothers in Palestine have weakened the resolve of some, but I have always been certain of the steadfastness and heroism of the Palestinian people, who have set an example of resilience and attachment to their land. This will be recognized with admiration by free nations. And I say to you with complete sincerity: "The determination of the Palestinian people and their attachment to their land is a model of steadfastness in the struggle to restore their rights."
Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses,
Let me remind you in this critical moment that Egypt, which initiated peace nearly five decades ago in our region and has preserved it, knows only peace based on justice and fairness, protecting resources, safeguarding land, and maintaining sovereignty.
Perhaps this was clearly stated in the peace treaty Egypt signed in 1979, which bound each party to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the other. This imposes a legal obligation not to create a reality that forces people to leave t
