US Coast Guard Recovers Wreckage of Missing Plane in Alaska

By Smah Ibrahim

The US Coast Guard announced the discovery of the wreckage of a small Cessna Caravan plane that went missing in Alaska on Thursday, confirming the deaths of three people. Authorities believe there are seven more bodies inside the plane, but it's difficult to access them due to the plane's condition.

The plane, which was on a flight from Unalakleet to Nome, disappeared from radar about 12 miles off the coast. Search and rescue teams were dispatched, and the wreckage was found 34 miles southeast of Nome.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Davy expressed his condolences for the ten lives lost, stating that an investigation is underway by the National Transportation Safety Board, supported by the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to reports, air traffic controllers were informed by the pilot that he intended to enter a holding pattern while waiting for the runway to clear. However, the plane suddenly dropped in altitude and speed before losing contact.

Authorities stated that search operations were challenging due to harsh weather conditions in the area at the time of the incident, which hindered visibility and complicated rescue efforts.

Several officials, including Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, expressed their condolences, describing the incident as tragic and stating that Alaskans feel deep sorrow over the painful loss.
